Chris and I had a wonderful early 2 year anniversary trip to cheer on the Twins in Kansas City. We decided to leave Friday August 8th in the morning and just take our time driving there. We stopped at quite a few gas stations and rest stops to use the bathroom, have lunch or just go for a walk. This is what happens when a pregnant woman goes on a road trip...a trip that should take just under 7 hours takes about 8. Oh well! The time went by fast and the trip was very fun!!
Friday night we went to get BBQ at a place called Arthur Bryants because we had heard from numerous people that this was a place we must eat. And they were right!! There are at least three of these restaurants in KC but we think this was the original. It was located in a warehouse district and didn't look like much of a restaurant, but when we walked in it was quite busy and there were pictures all over the walls of famous people who had eaten there and framed articles from food magazines raving about Arthur Bryants. You stand in line and order your food to the line cooks, pay for it and bring it to a table or take it home. They serve a heaping pile of whatever BBQ meat you would like on a piece of white wonder bread and it was delicious! You can put their signature sauce on if you like but we liked the smokey flavor of the meat without the sauce. When we were done we went back to our room to watch the Twins on TV and rest for our busy Saturday.
Saturday it decided to be rainy. I was not a happy camper! But Chris put up with me and cheered me up and reminded me that it could be 100degrees and humid and said we should try going to the zoo anyways since it really wasn't down pouring. He was right! We found the zoo and had a blast there...even though I think we walked around the Africa exhibit twice since the map was quite confusing. Anyways...we saw a lot of active animals, including kangaroos, monkeys and meer kats among our favorites!
After the zoo we decided to go downtown and checkout all the fountains we had heard about in their shopping plaza. It was pretty cool! We found a cute popcorn shop and a Cold Stone Creamery which we decided would be our lunch! Pretty unhealthy but we were on vacation and it sounded good! However...ice cream seems to be always sounding good these days!
When we were done seeing the downtown area we headed back to the room to get ready for the outdoor ballgame! We put our Twins shirts on, grabbed our tickets and Circle me Bert sign and made our way to Kaufman Stadium!!! This was definitely the highlight of our trip! Kaufman is a great stadium! The jumbo screen is enormous, the fountain/waterfall structures bordering the outfield are amazing, parking is easy and the fact that it is outside is icing on the cake! We lucked out and the it didn't get rained out, sat by nice Royals fans and some Twins fans and the weather was actually very enjoyable! To top it off the Twins won!!! I don't think we got circled by Bert or seen on tv by our families watching at home but we had fun and plan to go back again and again!
We made it home safely on Sunday after stopping to do one letterbox in Kansas city and getting a custard coffee drink from a local shop by our Best Western.
Stay tuned for a blog about the trip to Florida!
