The First Week

Merry Christmas to the new family of three...well four if you include our little Lancey!
Here is our little peanut all dressed up in her Christmas outfit ready to celebrate the holiday with the Henjums!
Well a week ago today Chris and I packed up the car with our hospital suitcases and left the house around 7 to have a baby! By 11am my contractions started and by 3pm I had made it to 7cm and the pain was absolutely unbearable so I decided to get the epidural which helped soooo much! I was able to relax for 5 hours on the bed and Chris was able to watch the Vikings game! they didn't win but I think Chris still had a pretty good day because by 8pm I was pushing and at 11:08 we had Linnea April Meyers! What an experience! We had wonderful help and support from all of the doctors and nurses. They had to keep a close watch on this lil one since she was laying on her umbilical cord so her heart rate kept going down when I would lay on my back. So we just moved me from side to side every few minutes! So enough about the labor...
We cannot believe Linnea is already a week old...and what an eventful week it has been. We are loving it but definitely had a scare the first day home...Linnea and I have been struggling with breastfeeding and it turns out the little peanut wasn't getting enough and had not peed three days after birth which just happened to be Christmas Eve so no clinic were open and we had to head to the ER. It was a very hard thing to do but definitely the right thing to do because they figured out she was indeed dehydrated. They put an IV in her and took some blood to see if anything else was going on. The blood tests came out a little off so the doctors wanted to keep her in NICU overnight. So this new family spent their first Christmas Eve in the NICU. Not ideal, but we were so happy to know she was getting cared for and would be okay. Everyone in the NICU was so nice and we made out pretty well on gifts too. They have a way of making a not so good situation much better. We came home with three stockings for her...two full of toys and receiving blankets. We also got a gingerbread house and a build a bear. Thank you Children's Hospital in St. Paul!
Whew...now onto happier things...Linnea has regular poops and pees now in her diaper so we are ecstatic about that! We keep a feeding and diaper diary so we know we are on track. I have been breast pumping to make sure she gets enough. We still practice on the breast before every bottle in hopes that she latches one of these days. We are still waiting for my milk and I am confident that when that comes she will get it. But if not...I will gladly keep pumping because we really want her to drink/eat my milk.
She is a very sweet good baby so far. She has met so many people already too! We had many great aunts and uncles and aunts and uncles visit in the hospital which was so nice. We have had a few friends over to meet her briefly as well. The Henjums came over for Christmas on Christmas Day and we had our Christmas chicken meal, opened gifts and even played some rock band. I think Linnea really enjoyed my singing! HAHA! Yesterday she went to her first bridal shower where she also got gifts! Today we have been taking it easy...we are only 1 week old after all! She put on her little Viking cheerleader outfit and watched the game with daddy. Mommy slept through an hour of it but then enjoyed the last part of the game with her family.
Linnea already makes so many cute facial expressions and is really exploring the house slowly with her eyes. She also moves those long fingers all around...Chris says she is casting spells. Overall she sleeps through the night...we usually have to wake her for her feedings. Once she is up at 11 though she likes to stay awake until around 1. Then when her 5am feeding comes around she likes to stay up until 7. We are definitely okay with this schedule. We know it may not last forever but we will take it for now! She usually starts out in her crib, but ends up in a bassinet in our room. We just feel more comfortable with her in our room and she is just so small in the hue crib!
As for Lancey adapting the new addition...we don't think she hasn't quite figured who or what Linnea is yet. She just kind of sniffs and sniffs around her when and if she comes into the room. Lancey usually steers clear of us these days and hangs out in "her" poppason chair in the office.
I am so happy Chris is able to be home for 2 weeks. He is such a good daddy and I don't know what I would do without him! He says I was amazing during labor but I have to say he was too! He was very active and in the room the whole time! We are very lucky ladies to have him!
Well I think that about sums up the week! We are looking forward to some more stay at home days this coming week but a few outings in there as well. We will be celebrating New Years Eve at an old friends house in Minneapolis. She is visiting from Germany and I am so happy she is home to meet baby! New Years Day will be at the Henjums to celebrate Christmas with Erik, Lisa and Dylan. It will be fun to have the cousins together! Chris' family will come and visit after New Year's Day. Lots of fun days ahead!
Thank you to everyone for all your good wishes and thoughts throughout the pregnancy! Now you can send good parenting wishes our way!

Chris has posted all of our pictures on picasa and facebook. So if you are on facebook check out either of our pages.
Here is the link for picasa. We hope it works...if not, try to cut and paste. If that still doesnt work let us know and we will gladly email you an invite!

Inducing

Well unless baby decides to make her move sometime during the night, Chris and I will be calling St. Joe's at 6:30am to say we are coming in for induction. If there is a bed available we will be on our way to begin the labor process and have our baby girl! YAY! We are excited and nervous all at the same time. More excited though!

We will post something as soon as we can and you will get phone calls from us or our family and friends sharing the news about the new Meyers family member.

Thank you for all your support, prayers and thoughts!

YAY for baby!

41 weeks...

Wow! Wow! Wow! Will you look at that bump of 41 weeks! After this somewhat stressful and emotional week of waiting, deciding whether or not to go to work due to minor contractions and the weather and to top it off getting a flat tire we are really really ready to meet our baby! I know she will cheer us both up!
After our doctors appointments yesterday and today we have set a date of this Sunday the 21st as the day to begin inducing unless she starts something on her own before that. We are truly hoping she does! It sure seemed like it last night...I woke up to several uncomfortable contractions and a huge urge to pee and aches in my hips similar to those I get after running a marathon!
We had some good news from the doctors and some sort of bad news. Last night we had an ultrasound which overrall baby passed with flying colors...her breathing and movements are great...however my fluid is getting a little on the low side for our bundle of joy, that is one reason inducing is looking safer than waiting. Our doctor, along with us is more for natural births, but when baby is at risk we will do what needs to be done. The good news is I had some gel put onto my cervix which has helped it soften and dilate. Today the doctor could stretch me to 4cm and said I was 85% effaced. All good things! We do need her to move her hand away from her face though...
So for now we will continue waiting and I am going to bake some cookies. We have our first family Christmas celebration tomorrow with my dad's side provided the weather/roads cooperate. We were planning on bringing baby in our arms...but it looks like if we are able to go she will still be in my tummy...or perhaps she will be in our arms but at the hospital!

No baby yet but a flat tire!

So we are now on day 6 past our due date which I guess after the first 4 LONG days, I am okay with because I have accepted that this is just something I don't have much control over. She is on her own schedule!

Apparently I don't have much control over my tires on my car either! I was on my way to work and 3 blocks away I felt a LOT of bumpiness so I pulled over and sure enough...drivers side tire was super flat! I called AAA and the good news is they are able to come, but the bad news is it will be anywhere from when I called at 7:15am to 12:06 pm...looks like I have another day off at home. My work day ends at 2 so unless I can get to work by 11 or noon I may not go. I know I need to relax but it is easier for me to relax at work with the kiddoes where I have less time to wonder about baby. I have been having contractions since due date but none so severe I have to stop what I am doing or consistent enough to head to the hospital.

Chris and I did do some major relaxing last night...we crawled into bed around 7pm, lit a sugar cookie candle, turned the Christmas lights on and watched 3 cute Christmas specials...Mickey's Christmas Carol, Winnie the Pooh's Christmas and Charlie Brown's Christmas. (well, maybe I watched more than Chris, he was mostly reading!) I proceeded to watch the end of The Polar Express as well. See...I do know how to relax!

We go for our Dr.'s appt and ultrasound tomorrow night so we will see what they say then! Have a good day everyone...I am going to do some crafts now I think!

Hmmmm...when will she come??

Well, its Saturday night. Almost 3 days after due date and still no baby! I think I am feeling the beginning signs of contractions though so we are hoping for a trip to the hospital by morning. We have tried everything we have heard to move labor along...I've walked, I've sat on the birthing ball, moved back and forth on the ball, had the dr strip my membranes to 3cm dilated (still just 1cm at resting though), I've eaten all the spicy food I want to, cooked food that involved lots of thought, drank red raspberry tea, I've taken baths and I have rested when my body has told me to rest. I've done many things to keep my mind off of wondering when everything will begin such as scrapbooking, wrapping all our gifts, doing the dishes, reading and watching favorite Christmas movies. We drove around town on Friday doing Christmas shopping which involved getting in and out of the car, going over some bumps and walking around the stores, but still no baby! Come out, come out, come out! Please send some good birthing vibes our way or any suggestions on how to get things moving! I know in the long run, it is up to my body and the baby as to her arrival but we are so ready now!

The doctor didn't think we would make it much past this weekend but just in case we did make an appt to have another ultrasound on Thursday to see how baby and I are doing. And set a tentative induction date of December 20th, that way we will more than likely be out of the hospital with baby by the 24th. I really don't want to be induced though!

Thank you everyone who has helped with this wonderful pregnancy! Hopefully the next blog will be us with our baby girl in our arms! YAY!

Here is our cute Christmas tree we went to cut down at Hampton Hills tree farm this past weekend with my dad, brother and Chris. We also found baby's first stocking at Target! YAY!
Here I am waiting at 40 weeks...doctor thought something may happen tonight since the water bag is quite full and felt ready to pop, but no one but baby knows when she will come so we will just keep waiting. Time for a carbloading dinner and the Office!

Sunday, December 7, 2008

Well as grandma has been calling it...here is my watermelon! We are 39 weeks along in this picture and doctor says we are still right on track for a December 11th baby as far as she can tell. I am softening up and my body is getting ready to have this little girl! YAY!!! We are so excited. The time has gone by so quickly and I have really lucked out and had a comfortable pregnancy. But nonetheless we cannot wait to have the baby in our arms and it seems kind of unreal that it could happen by the end of this week. By the end of this week we could be holding our daughter!! YAY! We know our lives will change but we are as ready as we can be.

In the meantime we are keeping ourselves busy doing other things and just letting nature take its course. My parents came over Wednesday and we made some Christmas cookies. I worked my last shift at Caribou on Friday ( I will probably go back to work there in 6 weeks but I can have 6 weeks totally off). Saturday morning Brian, Dad, Chris and I went to cut our Christmas tree down. We got a good one and picked it out quickly since it was FREEZING! I will post pictures later when it is done being decorated. After getting a good start of decorating throughout the day on Saturday we decided to go pick up some last minute things at Target Saturday night, followed by dinner at home while watching Iron Man.

As you may have read on my husbands blog, we are having a viewing party of the Dark Knight on Tuesday provided I am not in labor! Today we will watch the Vikes, do some baking, gift wrapping and have some spicy Buffalo Wild Wings to see if we can't get things with baby started. We are definitely letting nature take its course like I said above, but we don't see anything wrong with attempting to move it along with some spice!

The Nursery!

Here is baby's half of the room!!! She now has a changing table, a crib and an armoire! What a lucky lady! And as of last night we have decided our cute, beloved Lancey cannot go into the nursery. While I was reading in the rocking chair, she decided she would jump into the crib. She looked completely confused and shocked to be in such a place so I dont think she would do it again but we arent taking any chances of a cat "cuddling" with a baby so Lancey has to sleep outside of our room and baby's room. Luckily we have a door we can shut. She is not happy about it...there was quite a bit of meowing and scratching on the door last night. oh well. We will be with her the rest of the day.

Happy Thanksgiving and 38 weeks!!!

Whew! Here I am at 38 weeks!!! The big due date is 2 weeks away. We cannot believe how fast the time has gone by. I went to the Dr. today on a break during the shopping adventure and she said everything is still looking good and to just keep doing what I am doing so that was nice to hear. Baby is still head down and has a healthy heartbeat and so does mom.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving at my parents house yesterday full of playing some Wii, eating, playing some Pop 5 (basically a sped up Cranium) and catching up with family.

Today we saw Chris' mom, sister and niece and spent the time shopping, eating pizza and playing rock band. It was a busy but fun and prodcutive day. Tomorrow I will be shopping a little more (we are trying to get most of our shopping done this week if you cant tell!) while Chris is working and hang out with some friends. Sunday we have another Thanksgiving at mom and dads with my mom's side. Should be very fun! This picture you see below is how the week 37 maternity photo shoot turned out. We really like them and love my dad took the time to mat and frame it. The picture I took of it doesnt do his framing justice, but you wouldnt have been able to see our pictures very clearly had I got his whole fram job in.

35 and 36 week pictures!

Here is our daughter's first dresser given to us by the Meyers side!! Isn't it great?? We can fit so much of her cute things in there.

Here I am at 36 weeks in our room at the Andersen House.
And here is my belly with love in baby's nursery at 35 weeks.
This has been a wonderful weekend! It began with a very relaxing prenatal massage on Friday. Chris and I watched Finding Nemo afterwards because Chris had never seen it...he said that it is definitely a movie he liked and wouldnt mind watching over and over again if that is what baby wanted to do. I love it as well. Saturday we awoke to another dusting of snow which was very pretty! We spent our day kind of just relaxing together. Chris put the Winnie the Pooh swing together while I did a LOT of prescrapbooking. We watched House and Friends while doing these fun little activities. In the evening we went to Kiddie Kandids at Babies R Us and finally got our maternity pictures taken. We just took home one 8 X 10 collage picture. It has four of our fav pictures on it with a little quote in the middle. We love it! I will try to take a picture of that and the swing and post it a little later. Right now I better get ready for the Vikings game. We are off to a friends house to watch with them. Oh we also went to see Quantum of Solace last night with Brian and Ashley. It was very very fun! We bought some storage totes and the mattress for the crib at Babies R Us too and Chris made friends with a lil girl who was getting her picture taken. I am sure our daughter will be just as fond of her daddy when she arrive. Doctor said everything is looking good and we should have a healthy delivery of our baby!

A Quick Update!

So I know I know its been a while since I have posted...I am going to write a real qucik update before I go to Caribou and this weekend I will post some pictures! I say this weekend because for once in like 4 weekends we dont have anything planned!!! SO I will have lots of time to get the nursery even more set up, clean our room get some scrapbooks prepared for our lil arrival and catch up on this blog.

Hmmmm....so what has happened since the last posting on Nov. 6th. Well as of tomorrow I will be 37 weeks pregnant which means only 3 more weeks give or take. We finished our childbirth classes which were wonderfun and we went on a date to Broders Pasta Bar the evening our class ended. We celebrated Dylans Baptism.

I have been getting scheduled at Caribou 2 times a week which isnt awful but Id rather be doing other things. My last day working there will be December 5th. My last day at school as of now is Dec. 11th (due date). I will probably keep going though until I start laboring or until Doctor says to stop. I would rather have time off with baby than without. I only get 12 weeks and it is unpaid!!!

Okay onto more fun things...we stayed at the Andersen House in Wabasha last Friday night which was very fun but also stressful when it came to paying with gift certificates. It is an extremely cute bed and breakfast and we were happy to get the GC's as an anniversary gift but the employees at the Andersen house ruined our stay. Chris has more to say on his blog about this. We stopped at at very cool toy museum/shop and visited Chris' family on the way home on Saturday. We also stopped at my parents house for dinner on Saturday night. Both things cheered us up after our what should have been a fun getaway.

Sunday was spent watching the Vikes and doing baby laundry!!! She has soooo many cute things! We also have some art work up in baby's room.

Okay well I better go...My shift starts in 20 minutes at the Bou! I will write more this weekend! We have our 37 week appt Friday and I am also finally getting a prenatal massage!!! And we made appts for a free maternity photography session on Saturday night! FUN! FUN!!

Have a great day!

Walk/Run for the Apples

Okay so the Run For the Apples which happens every mid October is quite possibly my favorite fun run! One of my best friends Mikey and I have run it together we think the last 4 years...however this year we had to adjust since I have this cute little miracle growing inside me. As active as I have been able to be, I just don't have the ability to run in me right now, much less run 5 miles. So Mikey's friend and I walked about 3 of the 5 while Mikey ran it. It was a great day for it...very sunny! So we enjoyed our time at the orchard walking or running, ate the treats of an apple, cookie and cider after the run/walk, went into the great gift store and bought some apples and apple ciderdoodles (similar to a snickerdoodle but better!) and cider and then made our way home. I think I probably napped afterwards and then made some apple crisp! YUMMY!! Can't wait to run it again next year!

Halloween 2008

So....Lancey was a ladybug for Halloween...don't think she enjoyed it too much but I also don't think she hated it. The material was quite soft and she still lays on it, but she wants nothing to do with the hat!
For Halloween this year, Chuck came over and we carved pumpkins, handed out candy to sadly only 5 kids, played some rock band and then when our other friend Michele arrived we watched the original Halloween. Luckily I didn't get too scared and go into labor! We did have a Dr.'s appt as well and everything is still looking great! The Doc thought baby was still head down and will continue to grow a little bit but won't move quite as much since she is running out of space in my tummy. I however, have felt her almost more now than the rest of my pregnancy. It feels like she is pushing out, must be stretching that little body!

Hmmmm...I wonder who did this cool pumpkin?? Oh yes, my husband who is obsessed with Obama!!! In case you weren't sure...it is the sign that is on Obama shirts, advertisements, bumper stickers, etc. I think he did a great job!
On a side note....November 4th was a fantastic day for us...we are so excited for Obama and America! We celebrated with Papa John's pizza, Coors Light and an Odouls for me! Plenty of my kids at school were excited too and knew their parents were going to go vote...when asked if they knew what they were voting for some said, the president. Some knew Obama's name and when one girl heard Obama, she said, "oh, he is the guy everyone wants to win!" I thought that was cute!!

And here is mine...of course a happy one...not scary at all!

Here we are beginning to carve...yes I am wearing antlers. They weren't on very long though because they freaked Lancey out! Almost more than that ladybug costume! I guess I will just wear them during the holidays as Caribou instead!

Lutsen Sea Villas 2008

We had an extremely fun annual trip up north with the family this fall! Even with an infant and a very pregnant lady and a dad with a boot holding his ankles in place we loved our time spent together. We were able to go frisbee golfing two times and we also walked around Grand Marais.
Plenty of games were played, magazines and books were read and of course we had lots to eat!!

And of course...bonding with our newest family member...Dylan!

The weather was much cooler this year than usual and a little rainy...in fact I think my parents ran into some snow at Gooseberry Falls on their way home! October 27th and they saw snow...thats Minnsnowta for ya!

Baby Showers!

Below I have posted pictures from the three different baby showers baby, Chris and I have had. This baby is so loved and spoiled already! We have really received some wonderful, thoughtful items! We can't thank everyone enough. Baby Meyers is one lucky lady! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are feeling more and more ready for this new chapter in our lives everyday, which is good since we are almost just a month away from the lil ones entrance into the world. We had our third and last ultrasound October 20th and she was already head down...
We have one more birth class to go (this Saturday), which we have really truly been enjoying. We are taking them through a friend who is in love with pregnancy and childbirth, even after having three of her own she can genuinely say this! She is helping us to have a very confident labor and delivery and constantly reminding us that everything that is happening or is going to happen in December is natural, normal and my body will know what to do! So here is to hoping she is right!

Okay so onto the pictures:

Lorissa, Katie and I have been friends since about 7th grade and Katie and I are now pregnant together!! YAY!!! SO Lorissa and her family decided it would be fun to throw a double friends baby shower for us. And that is exactly what it was...FUN FUN FUN!! We even got to wear mommy to be sashes and tiaras! The picture below is of my niece Naomi and cousins baby who I think is about 7 months old. This was taken at the wonderful shower thrown by the Meyers side. We had it in Red Wing at Chris' grandma's house. More games were played and plenty of wonderful gifts were recieved!
This is gift below we just may bring baby home in...she is of course going to be coming home in the same stocking I came home in, but we think this is a pretty cute, cuddly warm looking sleeper! And its mom's favorite color!

The picture below is of my cousin Kim and her new son who was born in June, our grandma and my uncle. This was the first time grandma met this great grandson since they live in Colorado. They just happened to come the same weekend as the shower so baby Eoin got to meet a lot of his family members who live in MN, and his cousin Dylan who is only a few weeks younger. What a fun weekend!

And this picture is in my parents backyard...preggo with two of the hostesses with the mostess! Mom and Lisa. They put on a great shower with the help of family and friends. We had delicious pasta and salad (of course I wanted pasta), played games and opened many fabulous gifts!

More Recent Baby Bump Pics

So I have been a little behind on the blogging...perhaps it because we have just been so busy!!! As you can see behind me the crib is up!! Didnt Chris do a GREAT job of painting it white! We love it! Above is me at 34 weeks after a very fun double baby shower with another friend of mine who is also pregnant.
Here I am at 33 weeks on our annual family trip to the Lutsen Sea Villas in northern Minnesota.

Here I am at week 32 after my first baby shower at my parents house.

And here is the week 31 picture.
I am definitely feeling more pregnant and looking that way as well! I am pretty tired when I get home after working 9 hours with kindergarteners and I'm still working at the Bou once a week, so once a week I have a 14 hour day! YIKES! The kids at school continue to occassionally touch the bump and say, "Ms. Amy, I like your baby!" Many ask if it will be a boy or girl and when will she come. One asked if it will hurt when the baby comes...I simply said, well yes it probably will. One informed me that her mom had to have her stomach cut to get the baby out. I said, yes sometimes that happens. They also ask if they will get to meet her and I say I hope I can bring her in to visit in January or February. The plan for now is to return to work after my maternity leave is up which hopefully is after 12 weeks, but it may just be 6, I still have to figure that out. Our doctor said since our pregnancy is going so well and I am healthy that I should put my last day as the due date. So, on December 11th when I am at work waiting for baby to let me know she is ready to come out and the kids ask "when is the baby coming?", I can say, well maybe today! I can't wait for their reactions then! I am sure it will be entertaining! It is ironic that my due date is the last day of after school activities! My supervisors are very happy about that!

Twin Cities Marathon 2008

After celebrating our friends marriages the night before we went to cheer for Chuck run his second 26.2 mile journey!! The Twin Cities Marathon...the most beautiful urban marathon in the world! Baby Meyers wore her special shirt for him too! Sadly, my dad could not run it this year. It was a very hard decision to make, but with the pain he has been having for over a year in his achilles tendons, it was probably the wisest, best way to go. Once he is done with his therapy, I know he has another marathon in him!
GO CHUCK GO!!! It was a very rainy cold run but he did so well!! He finished in 3 hours 36 minutes! We went to Chili's afterwards to celebrate with some burgers, then we took about a 3 hour nap!!

30 Weeks Preggo and Two Weddings...what a night!

After 4 and a half years Katie Ream and Paul Riddell tied the knot!! It was a beautiful day and a beautiful outdoor wedding at the Outing Lodge Bed and Breakfast in Stillwater, MN. Now, this picture was turned the right way when I picked it out so I don't know what happened to it on the way to blogger but oh well!
Here is the pregnant bridesmaid Amy and her wonderful hubby Chris! Thanks Ashley for doing my hair! After the ceremony we had appetizers in the cabinlike reception hall and watched the newlyweds' first dance and the father daughter dance.
We couldn't stay all night though because we had another friends wedding to get to! Megan and Pat also got married October 4th, 2008. Their ceremony and reception was on Summit Ave. in St. Paul at the Germanic Institute. To end the night the newlyweds performed Wild Thing together with Megs dads and a friend of the couple. It was a blast!
Okay so this picture should have been with Katie's wedding...here is Lorissa, Katie(the bride) and Amy...friends since 7th grade!
More friends since 7th grade dancing the night away...Aliya, Melissa, Megs (the bride) and me!

CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couples!!

31 Weeks!

Here we are at 31 weeks!! I am in love with these new maternity jeans! I am still feeling great and getting more and more excited to meet this little lady. We have finally set up some childbirth classes which will start this week. Chris and I went to Chuck's this past weekend where Chris successfully painted the changing table! YAY! So that is up in our nursery. The crib needs one more coat of paint and we need to find a dresser and we will be on the way to having a complete nursery! With three showers coming up we will get lots of other goodies to fill the nursery with too.

30 Weeks Pregnant

Here we are at 30 weeks!! She is moving more and more each day and I am getting bigger and bigger! We go to the doctor on Wednesday so hopefully everything is still going as it should. We are getting excited to cheer for grandpa Henjum and Chuck in the Twin Cities Marathon this Sunday. Baby and I have an idea for a fun shirt to wear! We are also rooting on the Twins!!! Yesterday hopefully was not the last game we will be working this season. GO TWINS!!!
