I'd like to introduce you to Brian and Megan Henjum. Little brother Brian tied the knot on December 26th, 2009 to the lovely Megan Zeilinger. It was a beautiful wedding including singing, dancing, hand written vows, a taco bar and of course jello cake. Yep Jello Cake was their wedding cake.

Christmas Morning

SANTA CAME! SANTA CAME!

Santa was very good to this little girl this year...she got some Disney Princess Duplos and a Xylophone. She also got sooo many fun toys from friends and family! Thank you thank you thank you! We love all the new books and musical toys. She is a dancing machine!

Opening gifts with mommy.

And with daddy.

Taking a break to have some bottle. We are still working on the whole milk and cup thing, but with the sickness, that is the least of our worries right now!

Merry Christmas from the Meyers!

We watched the Christmas Day Parade in Disney World on tv and she was waving away to all those floats!

I love Christmas, but boy is it EXHAUSTING! Good thing I got these cute pjs from great grandma so I could take a nap right after opening all those gifts and having cinnamon rolls for breakfast!
Great Grandma used to give my mom and all her other grandkids pjs on Christmas Eve so they could wear them home from her house and go right to bed. I think it's pretty neat that the tradition is continuing to her great grandkids!
While the squirt napped Daddy plowed the driveway so we could get to my mom and dad's for more celebrating. Thank goodness we got this snowblower from Dave! Our driveway is a pain to shovel! A good workout yes, but that's what I ski for!

Another Holiday Season in and out of the Hospital :(

So last year we were in the Hospital around the holidays because we were having Linnea. Then we were in the ER on Christmas Eve because Linnea was dehydrated. This year unfortunately wasn't much different (except none of the trips to the hospital were to have a baby!). Linnea's one year appointment on the 22nd went as well as it could. She is a healthy 19 pounder. She got 5 shots and had to have her blood drawn again to check the lead level. Everything went downhill after that though!
I was sort of leary on having the shots done because I knew she had been battling a bit of a low grade fever and a cold the night before. She, however didn't have a fever when they took it at the office so they went ahead with the shots. Well, 11pm came and we heard a different cough and cry come from Linnea's room. So I rushed in there to find the peanut burning up. I immediately took her temp and saw the dreaded 103.9, almost 104. I woke Chris and we decided to call an on call nurse to see what to do. I had a feeling we would be sent to the ER but with shots, babies sometimes get fevers so we thought we would double check. We had also been giving her infant tylenol and it was still this high. So the nurse listened to her symptoms and then listened to her breathing and determined her breathing was too rapid and we needed to go in to get her checked. So we packed the diaper bag quick and bundled up and out the door we went.

Luckily there wasn't a wait so we were seen right away. She still had her fever, but it was very hard for the nurses to listen to her breathing since she was screaming just from the stethoscope being taken out. I think she was still traumatized from the 5 shots earlier that day. Little did she know something worse than shots was coming...anyways, we made it to an exam room and waited for a doctor to come in. After listening to our story they decided they needed to be on the safe side and take urine so she had a catheter put in, take blood so she had an IV put in and then we did an X Ray. Quite possibly the worst thing I've seen her go through. She needed to be strapped down for the X-Ray and I had to hold her head straight and no binkie was allowed. TERRIBLE! But they did find a bit of pneumonia in her chest. A very small bit, but enough to have part of the antibiotics put in her IV. At least the IV was already in. It was hard for us and the doctors to decide what to do because the fever could have been from the shots but since I knew she had a fever before I didn't think that's what it was from.

SO I am glad we decided to go but very glad we didn't have to stay the night. We headed home around 3am and were told we needed to either come back in 24 hrs to get the rest of the antibiotics or go to our clinic to get it. When morning came, I decided to call the ER to make sure I understood our directions correctly. I am glad I called because they said the radiologist who looked at the X Ray in the morning didn't see pneumonia after all so after talking with that nurse and our doctor we decided not to bring her back in. I kept her appt on the 24th at the clinic just in case her fever was back or she seemed sick but ended up not using it. We thought she was better.

Linnea and I headed to my parents house late afternoon on the 23rd so we wouldn't have to get there on the 24th by ourselves (Chris had to work until 2:30). We had a great time baking and decorating cookies and watching A Christmas Story and Linnea seemed to be on the mend until about 11:30pm when she awoke and couldn't get back to sleep. My mom rocked her while I cleaned up with my dad, then we all went to bed. Linnea with me. She just couldn't do it on her own. I thought something else was wrong now. In the morning though she seemed better again, not a real high fever. Just one that she always gets after her shots. So we didn't go to the appt. The weather was pretty bad and I thought she was okay. So we went on with Christmas Eve.

We went to the 3:00 church service and when we got home Linnea was very hungry and tired. Megan gave her her bottle and then laid her down. She slept for like 2 hours! Missed dinner but got up for some gifts and leftovers but didn't seem quite herself. Boo. We went home that night and woke up Christmas Day and had our lil family gift opening and breakfast, took naps and then headed over to my parents again. But we only stayed until about 5 before deciding to go back to the ER. Linnea wouldn't eat without screaming and her temp was back to 102.5 on tylenol and motrin.

SO this time when we went in we said it seemed like she had a sore throat. They took her temp, which had gone down (yay) and looked in her mouth. And there they saw the problem! She has been battling Stomatitus, a viral infection which attacks when the immune system is down and leaves painful canker sore type sores in people's mouths. It's quite common but who would think to look in babies mouths, until they show signs of painful swallowing and chewing which didn't happen until Christmas Night.

So anyways, they were able to prescribe some medicine for her to help make her more comfortable but suggested she not attend the wedding because she was contagious and really needed to rest. So Brian and Megan got married without a flower girl in attendance, but Grandma Sarah and Aunt Allison got to watch Linnea who was really on the mend!

We took one more trip to Urgent Care on Sunday the 27th because we were worried she may be getting dehydrated. It is so hard for her to eat and drink since it hurts so she has been consuming less which leads to less wet diapers. She only had 2 barely wet ones all day. So in we went to Pediatric Urgent Care. They confirmed she was slightly dehydrated but not enough for an IV. They said we just need to keep trying different ways to get her fluids. So we bought a variety of pedialyte, pretty much baby gatorade and water down everything she eats and so far she has had enough wet diapers!

Whew. I truly hope next year we stay out of the hospitals and I hope that all of you who read this and your kiddoes are all healthy! Sick babies are no fun! I'ts so hard to know what is wrong and what to do!

The good news is, is she is getting back to normal and her lead level went from 8.3 to 2!!!! Hooray!

Christmas 2009!

Overrall we had a very fun Christmas! As you will read or have read in a previous blog, we were in and out of the Hospital with our little peanut but still managed to do almost all the celebrating of the season!
We were at my parents house on Christmas Eve. We went to a lovely church service at LCP and then back to the parents house for some yummy cheese, meat and crackers appetizers followed by the Christmas Chicken, gift opening and cookies!
Dylan and Linnea are having a great time playing peekabo in the above picture!
Linnea trying so hard to be healthy by the Christmas tree!
Linnea and I slept over at my parents house on the 23rd so we wouldn't have to get there in the blizzard on the 24th alone. Chris was working until 2:30. Here she is just staring and reaching at one of the beauties of Christmas.
Some of the decorated sugar cookies I did with mom and dad on the 23rd.
Fun times with grandpa and her push walker toy Roary!

Happy 1st Birthday Linnea!

I can't believe it, but a year ago after a 41 week pregnancy this is what I looked like before having our beautiful baby girl you see below.

What a wonderful day that was a year ago when our family two became a family of three!!

Now we would like to introduce to you our big one year old enjoying her cake or maybe just frosting on her special day!!!

Linnea April Meyers had one heck of a first birthday bash yesterday. SO many of her friends and family could come and celebrate with her!

Mommy made her a snowman cake which as you saw above she thoroughly enjoyed!

Mommy also made rigatoni...you can't tell from this picture but it really is one of her fav meals! Linnea received many fun gifts and would like to thank everyone for celebrating this exciting day with her. Linnea has done a lot this year (too much to fit in a blog), but some highlights are many storytimes with mommy, a few sleepovers at grandma and grandpa Henjum's, two trips up north, a trip to Colorado, Twins Games, many fun holiday and birthday celebrations, trips to the zoo, trips to Ellsworth and Red Wing, trips to apple orchards, out to eat and lots of walks around the many lakes of Minnesota!
We are excited to see what year two brings! We feel so blessed to have a such a happy little girl. Her 1 year appointment is tomorrow so we will hopefully hear we also have a healthy girl!

One Year Old!

Look how much I have grown!
The above picture is at one week old. The below picture is from today, one year old. As fun as it was to take these pictures, they will now stop and we will be taking yearly ones! I can't believe how fast the year went and how big our baby is. We go in tomorrow for her 1 year appointment.

Holidazzle

Ho Ho Ho!!!! We had a very wonderful day on Thursday! We hurried out the door right when Chris got home so we could make it to downtown Minneapolis to check out Macy's 8th Floor Holiday display, A Day in the Life of an Elf, eat dinner on the 12th floor and then head outside to watch the Holidazzle Parade. Here are some pictures from one of my favorite holiday events so far!

Downtown Minneapolis is beautiful this time of year!

Dancing and Laughing Baby!

Chris treated himself to a new phone the day after Thanksgiving and as he was listening to the choices of his ring tones he came across this one. We think Linnea liked it! It is now what we hear when he gets phone calls.

Christmas Celebration Number 1

Merry Christmas! And we have so much to be merry about! We celebrated with my dad's side on Sunday with a LOT of appetizers, laughs and some games.
And guess who made a visit...yep...Santa Claus!
This was Linnea's first sighting of the jolly old man.
She was just fine in grandma's arms. Then the transfer to Santa's lap happened...

and she was not so jolly or fine anymore!

The picture above is of my new parent group holiday party. We have been getting together the second weekend of every month since our kids were about 6 months because our 0-6 month classes were over. We had so much fun together in those classes that we wanted to keep meeting up so here we are! So many of our babies are turning or have turned 1 already! It's so fun to watch them grow up together.

We did a board book exchange and Linnea got a great book called That's Not My Reindeer, He's Too Furry. It is a perfect book for her because it has lots of things to feel and bright colors! She is really into those books and lift the flap ones these days.
I'm so excited to see her open her birthday and Christmas gifts in just a few short days!

Christmas Specials

I have very fun memories of watching Christmas Specials when I was little and still look forward to them this day. I have loved watching the specials with Linnea. The Grinch was her first one and she seemed to really enjoy it! YAY! One of the many many things I have been looking forward to doing with my kids is watching specials and baking for the holidays. Linnea is a little young to really get into it but she does what she can and it makes me so happy!
Apparently she liked this part!
We also have watched Rudolph, Shrek the Halls and just tonight we watched Charlie Brown and the new one Prep and Landing. It is so much fun! We put her in her jammies and let her cuddle with us on the couch with her bottle before heading up to read a story or two and hit the hay. Ahhh...being a mommy is fun!
We found a new storytime/puppet show on Friday mornings that we will be attending. We went there last Friday with a good friend of mine from HS and her two sons. We then checked out the playroom and lil restaurant at Como Zoo and had a blast! Can't wait to hang out again!

All Dressed Up!

Linnea got to have a sleepover at grandma and grandpa Henjum's this past Saturday night. We started the Saturday at Border's to listen the story How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Chris and I then left her with my parents. They had a good time playing and visiting great grandma. She went to church with grandma and me Sunday morning wearing this adorable dress (passed down from a friend...you know who are and thank you! It is perfect for the holidays and fits so well...9 months and all!)
We also put her on my old rocking chair after church for some pictures with this cute bear!
And then we thought we would get her acquainted with Santa Clause since she will visiting the jolly fellow next Friday before the Holidazzle Parade!
The reason she had a sleepover was so that mommy and daddy could have their first date night since she was born! We have done a few things without her but always with other people so it was very fun to get out just the two of us! We went out to eat at Dixie's on Grand which is one of our favorite places and I was very happy to learn they now serve Dixie Beer...which I could only ever find in New Orleans. Now if I could just find Abita Beer here in Minnesota!
This is the pretty Christmas tree outside of Dixie's. We walked around Grand Ave a little bit and got some cheesecake and coffee to go at Cafe Latte and headed home to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It was a wonderful date night!
Sunday morning I was able to go for a run before heading to church to meet my mom and Linnea. I then brought Linnea to the city of Afton because they were having a little holiday celebration. It was very cute!
Chris stayed home to work on trim and crown moulding with Chuck. Pictures will be up soon! Along with pictures of our decorated house.
We ended the day with a few friends over for the Vikings Game and a homemade roast. It was a great meal...but so so great a game. Oh well.
